A Brief insight into the Log Cabin Log cabins are usally built from logs from trees.
History of the Log Cabin The Log Cabin or usally known as a log house was very commonly built in the Bronze Age around 3500 BC and was the quickest and cheapest form of housing built in Northern Europe. By the time settlers began to appear in America, there was a tradition for log cabins built in Scandinavian countries like Germany, Northern Russia and Ukraine. Log Cabins can be seen in rural areas of North America but the construction history origanally starts from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. You mainly see Log Cabins in coniferous forests extended over the coldest parts of the world. Although the thick timber made the log cabin warm many setllers used animal skins to make it even more of a comfortable place to live.
How are Log Cabins traditionally built? Log cabins are usally built by stacking tree trunks one top of each other. Cutting out and overlapping interlocking corners which usally stick out. Using this method enables the log cabins to be strong. To make the Log Cabin weather tight 'moss' and other soft material is tightly compacted into the joints.
Log Cabins nowadays are precision cut and the kit ones usally don't come as logs. The Log Cabins can be used for relaxation, gymnasism, homeworkers office or just about anything that comes to mind. |
